Protect Your Home as Well as Your Family

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

By T. R. Walton How secure is your home? How accessible is your home? How Often do you ask yourself these questions. Your home is where you andyour family want to be safe from the daily stresses of life andmost definitely from crime. A burglary happens every 15 secondsin this country. Though many intrusions are non confrontationalhave you ever asked yourself what if I or my family were homeduring a burglary? Most Burglaries happen during daytime hoursbecause this is the time many of us are working, going toschool, etc. The typical burglar is looking for anything ofvalue. Rape and/or sexual assault after a break-in happensalmost regularly during the summer months when windows and doorsare left open and unlocked. If you try to think like a burglarfor a minute the first step in planning a break-in would be tofigure out when the home owners are not home. You would watchthe daily routine of the homes occupants. The next step would beto figure out how difficult gaining entry to the house would be. A couple of things come to mind here; Locked doors and windows, alarm systems, and even surveillance cameras now. Burglars aregoing to enter your home by either walking right thru anunlocked door or open window, using tools to break in or unlockthe existing locks, or simply using force to gain entry so letslook the first steps in preventing a burglary. Door an windowlocks are the homes initial barrier to be overcome by anintruder. Typically the garage and rear doors of the house arethe weekest entry points as well as first floor windows on thesides and rear of the home. These areas may also provide coverfor the burglar. You will want to make sure your locks make itvery difficult to gain entry. Use a solid core or metal door forall entry areas, Use a quality, heavy-duty, deadbolt lock with aone-inch throw bolt Use a quality, heavy-duty, knob-in-lock setwith a dead-latch mechanism Use a heavy-duty strike plate with3-inch screws to penetrate into a wooden door frame, usemultiple locks for your doors as well. Sliding glass doors haveblocking bars that can be inserted in the track to prevent thedoor from sliding open. You can use pins that slide thru thetrack as well to prevent sliding or lifting of the door. Windowsare often left open during the summer months. Blocking devicesare neccessary to keep the window from opening further. A windowshould not be left open more than six inches or enough to allowa burglar to reach in and unlock or remove blocking device. If an intruder makes it into your home via door, broken window, etc. we suggest the next step of arming your home via an alarmsystem that is monitored and dispatched to police upon an alarmor simply by having detection and sound alarm devices to notonly scare off an intruder but also warn anyone who may be homeat the time. Devices such as Door and window sound alarms, motion alarms, vibration alarms, etc. Alarm yard signs andwindow decals are also a great deterrent as well as the lightingin and around your home. We suggest using floodlights withmotion sensors around the exterior of your home and timers thatyour lights and appliances plug into and will come onautomatically simulating people are home. You may purchasesurveillance cameras to help further deter and/or monitor yourhomes activities when you are not there. These images can beviewed and recorded onto time lapse recorders or your PC withproper software. You can even watch your home while on vacationthru your laptop computer. These are the basic steps in inpreventing home burglary as well as protecting your family. A Fun Craft: Painting Birdhouses

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

By Debbie Jensen Painting birdhouses can be a fun hobby! Most unpainted birdhouses range from $5.00 to $20.00 at Michaels, a chain craft store here in the U.S. For the most part, they keep unpainted birdhouses in stock year ’round. Birdhouses can be purchased from art and gift stores, craft shows, garage sales, antique stores, and even thrift stores. They are plentiful, once you get an eye for seeing them. Thanks to birdhouses, I have slowly and gradually improved my artistic skills. You might wonder, why birdhouses? Since birdhouses are made out of wood, they can be painted over and over. They are great to practice on. In fact, the more paint, the better (especially if they end up outside). Another reason why I choose to work with them has to do with the multiple planes of birdhouse architecture. Trying new design ideas on different planes is easier than painting on 2-D formats. When painting on 2-D canvases, artists need to worry about composition and framing, whereas this is typically not too much of a concern when painting birdhouses. I decoupage, glaze, antique, stress, sponge, stencil, and even faux paint birdhouses. Birdhouses are the perfect format to explore color schemes too. Its natural to have some birdhouses turn out better than others. Typically, the better designed birdhouses can stay indoors (or put up for sale) and the lesser ones can go outside. Often times and as mentioned earlier, some of the birdhouses have several applications applied to them. I have to admit, after several layers of paint, the surfaces can get ruddy looking (but the birds and wasps never seem to care). What could be a better hobby than to improve your artistic skills while housing our feathered friends? So, not only are you creating shelter for the little wild birds in your neighborhood, but what a unique gift to give to your friends. Think about it, if they put it in their backyard, no offense should be taken! Contact Management Systems Track Your Marketing Efforts

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

By Joshua Feinberg Contact management systems allow you to track which marketing techniques are working and which aren’t. With an effective contact management system in place you can see at a glance how much time you are spending with leads and from which sources you are getting the best leads. A contact management system is like a mini Profit and Loss Statement. In it you track your activities and results for different marketing channels: referral marketing, seminars, direct mail, joint ventures, etc… For each lead source you should track the following type of information: How much time you spent How much money you spent How many paying clients it brought in How much revenue was generated From this type of information your contact management system can calculate: How much time it costs to acquire a lead and client The dollar cost per lead and client The total cost involved per lead and client Conversation percentages Number leads to number of clients Revenue per lead Revenue per client To get the most benefit from a contact management system you have to be disciplined. You need to consistently record how much time you spend on each lead and client over a period of time. If you update your contact management system every month you should be able to keep on top of what is happening. Bottom Line on Contact Management Systems Contact management systems provide a wealth of information. By recording data related to your lead and client generation you can track what you are doing, what is working, what’s not and then make sound marketing decisions. Using a contact management system gives you the confidence you need to dump the things that aren’t working and concentrate your time and money on those that are. 9 Tips to Get That Girl

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

By Coco Swan You can make that hot girl your dream date! How other guys get girls! 1: Look pleased to see her: Whenever you see your dream girl you should smile. In a natural way. Not in a scary stalking way. It is actually very hard not to acknowledge someone when they smile at you. Try it and see for yourself. Observe other things that make her smile. 2: Cleanliness: Girls place a lot of emphasis on personal hygiene. You will never get a girl if you have dirty fingernails, greasy hair or you dont wear deodorant. (Unless, of course the girl is into the grunge look.) These may seem like minor things to you but girls are really turned off by guys who they think are not clean. Yes. They will notice. Go easy on the strong aftershave as well. You are going for clean and natural. 3: Appearance: Maybe its time for some new clothes and a new haircut. Do you look like you fit in with her circle of friends? If you are unsure, ask your sister, female friend or relation for advice. You dont have to be a clone of the people she hangs out with, but maybe you just need to adjust your style a bit so it meshes. Being your own person is good so long as it is not too out there or just plain socially unacceptable. Be sure you also clean your teeth daily. Bad breath is another no no. She will never kiss you if she cant get past your breath. If you have issues with your skin there are many great products out there to invest in. This is not such an issue as all of the above, if you can just make sure that your skin looks clean and well tended. 4: Be observant. Commenting on new shirts or clothes is fantastic. Especially if you compliment her on them. All girls like guys to notice their new hairstyle. This is because so many guys dont. Even if it looks really slight to you, it isnt to her. Once she realises you are noticing her she will probably start to play along just to see what happens. You will now have her curiosity. 5: Plan in advance: If you get tongue-tied around her, or are very shy, prepare things to say to her. Ask her if she had a good weekend. What is she doing this weekend? This will also give you some clues as to what she likes to do in her spare time, where she goes, what interests she has. You may find that you already have things in common. If you do, you should work on that. For example, you both might like the same band and can then arrange to go in a group to see them. Group outings are good because then the girl will feel safe. Maybe you can arrange to just catch up there. You may find that you already go to the same club or venue but on a different night, in which case you need to change your night. 6: Good sense of humour. People are always attracted to happy people. You dont have to become a professional clown but girls like guys who can laugh at themselves and dont take themselves too seriously, especially initially. Look around at any bar or party. Is the crowd around the skulking surly person or the guy with the big smile and laugh? It just takes practice. 7: Get her to trust you. Obviously, this is very situation dependent. Is she a work colleague or someone with less history who sells you your lunch? Obviously if you work with her this will probably be easier than if she is more of a stranger. If you work with her you can arrange things so that you can go out for group drinks, activities etc. In this kind of environment you can also offer to help her out with stuff like fixing cars, moving house, etc. Try to start being a good friend to her so she can see what a great guy you are. Before long, she may wonder how she got along without you. With more of a stranger, building up trust will take more time and will definitely need at least one group activity so she can see that you are safe. In this scenario, tagging along with her and her friends is probably a good idea, as she will be thinking there is safety in numbers. Getting to know her friends is a great way to getting to know her better. 8: Dont be too predictable. Girls enjoy a bit of a challenge. 9: No scary behaviour. You should not do anything that could be construed as stalking, crossing personal boundaries, or in the workplace, what could be perceived to be sexual harassment. Keep it friendly and appropriate. We all know the saying absence makes the heart grow fonder. You dont have to be in her face the whole time. You can get that dream girl to love you! That hot girl can be your dream date! Go and get her! Good Luck. Coco Swan. Copyright 2007 Author Coco Swan Coco recommends reading this easy-path and increasingly popular guide to making sure you get the guy you want. Wedding Invitation: How to Save Money on the Invitation of Your Choice

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

By Eriani Doyel The wedding invitation that you choose will make a reflection on the people that you send it to. It will say something about the way that you feel about this special event and how you feel about them. But, with all of the other expenses for a wedding, you may be concerned about the cost of getting a nice wedding invitation. If this is the case, there are options available to you so that you can get a great price on a wedding invitation that reflects your personal taste and style. You can design and print your own invitations or you can go to a discount printer or stationery business. Although etiquette dictates that a wedding invitation contains certain features and information, the bride and groom are free to express themselves in the color, design and even wording. This is what makes designing your own wedding invitation so appealing. You can choose to work with a local print shop or stationery store, or you can find a site on the internet which will allow you to pick and choose every thing from the type of paper to the color of the ink. Make sure that you are able to examine the paper and see samples of the printing before you choose any printer. If you have access to a high quality printer, you may be able to print your own wedding invitation, but the cost of having the discount printer do it may be worth the reduced hassle. Online you can also find many businesses offering discounted invitations, and virtually all of them will send you free samples so that you can get a look at their work before you make a purchase. The weight of the paper and the quality of the printing are the key things to look for as well as the number of selections available for customization. Make sure that you begin your selection process as early as possible so that you can have time to think about the wording as well as the design and allow room for errors to be corrected if that is necessary.
